In 2012, Nicolas Borsinger was elected as VOICE President for three years and his mandate has been successfully prolonged at the 2015 General Assembly. The VOICE network is representing 85 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) active in humanitarian aid worldwide; VOICE is the main NGO interlocutor with the EU on emergency aid.  

Mr Borsinger graduated in 1979 as an agricultural engineer at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich. In 1981, he completed a Master's degree in environmental engineering at the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne.


Present and previous appointments include:

President (2012 - ongoing) of “Voluntary Organisations in Cooperation in Emergencies” (VOICE) network of 85 European NGOs active in humanitarian aid worldwide,

Executive Director (March 2000- April 2016) at the Foundation "Pro Victimis"

Chairman of the board (2012) of the newly created “Autorité de Surveillance des Fondations et Institutions de Prévoyance” (ASFIP).

Member of the Board (2006-2012) of “Swissfoundations”, association of endowed or otherwise independent grant making foundations.

Member (2005-2006) of the joint Council on Foundations (CoF, Washington) - European Foundation Centre (EFC, Brussels) working group establishing guidelines towards “Accountability in International Grant Making”.

Delegate (1986-2000) of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as head of mission (Armenia, Tajikistan, Chechnya, Georgia), deputy head of regional delegation (Buenos Aires), field coordinator or head of sub delegation (Azerbaijan, Rumania, Croatia, Israel and Occupied Territories), delegate (Ethiopia, Thailand/Cambodia) as well as various headquarter positions.

Previously activities (1980-1986) range from agricultural research (Switzerland) and farm management (Paraguay) to project analysis (Paraguay, Morocco).

Publications include contributions on humanitarian and philanthropic issues in Swiss daily and weekly newspapers as well as in French and English speaking professional quarterlies.

Fluent in English, French, Spanish and German.
